Ideas

Welcome to the ideas page! Here I will add ideas for activities, discussion points and guided sessions that will hopefully bring a further richness to the reading of ‘Ladders’. If you have any other ideas, photos or comments, please feel free to send them in through my contact page.

Ladders

In the story, the ladder gets etched with a phrase – ‘Just Breathe’. What other inspirational or supportive messages could you tell yourself or others as you climb your ladder?

Just Breathe…

Breathing is the most natural thing in the world…or is it? In times of stress, our breathing becomes shallow. Take some time to explore guided breathing sessions, or just a few deep breaths by yourself. In for 4, out for 8. See what a difference it makes!

Name the dragon

Naming things gives us back the power. For older children (or adults), knowing what the dragon actually is can help us find the strength and coping mechanisms to deal with it.

Draw it

Art Therapy is a great way to express thoughts and feelings we don’t have words for yet. Some of the images in the book have space for you to add your own thoughts and feelings. You are so welcome to draw in the book and make it your own!

Find them

One of the images in the book show the supporters looking up the ladder. Often we don’t take the time to notice who is cheering us on. Take a moment to think about who is in your corner, even if it’s from a distance.

Dreams

I wrote this story with the ladder being a metaphor for school and education, but it doesn’t have to be. What are your dreams and goals? Take some time to visualise reaching them – what small steps did you have to take to get there? Now, how can you make this a reality?

Resources

I would love to be the font of all knowledge, however I know full well that there are people who explain things much better than I ever could. Keep checking in below to find links to books, videos, activities and whatever else I can find that fits with the message in this book. Again, if you find something that you think should be on this list – let me know through the contact page.
